A note from the site’s creators:
My brother Patrick and I created General Admission on February 11, 2011. Our goal isn’t necessarily to keep anyone informed — in fact, in all honesty, you should probably get your news elsewhere. The truth is while my brother and I each possess journalism degrees, we’re not the type of journalists who like to do any actual work — we’re more the type of journalists who like to listen to records and go to shows.
While General Admission will do its best to provide reviews of albums, soundboards and live performances, it’s important to note you will not find any rating systems of any kind. There are no scores, no grades, no stars, no thumbs up or down.
The reason for this is fairly simple. We all know there are peaks and valleys — strikes and gutters — in all walks of life. Thus, it’s no surprise the music industry produces its fair share of garbage just like anything else. To spotlight it, even to tell the world how bad it is, would be a tremendous waste of time.
Similarly, we don’t have much interest in nitpicking every little detail of a performance to death. Often times, the flaws and imperfections in a piece are precisely the things that give them character and make them special. To let a few blemishes or inadequacies severely deteriorate a person’s appreciation for a work of art is missing the point.
We’ve also included an “In General” section, which is for sounding off on anything in particular. Think of it as an editorial page, or a giant digital soapbox.
We welcome submissions and contributions to the site. While my brother and I both have fairly diverse and eclectic tastes in music, things will certainly get overlooked from time to time. It’s up to you to fill in the gaps.
Thanks for stopping by General Admission, and remember — in general, admit to nothing.
