The opening mash-up of tracks "Lucinda" and "Ain't Goin' Down to the Well" sets the stage for an energetic set of performances. But a few songs later, we're drowning in the gutter, Tom's warning us where not to go, and he's reminding us we'll all be dead soon anyway

As with most Waits collections, the record's finest moments are the gloomy, somber tales of heartache and depression --- "Dead and Lovely", "How's It Gonna End", "Trampled Rose" --- the song titles enough to bring tears to the eyes of the weaker among us.
